Story of the Week
Thank you Lauren!
By now Lauren Perry is safely back in Boston, but she certainly made her presence felt here in South Africa. In just four weeks, she reinforced a love of science and developed strong personal bonds with each of the kids.
What makes Lauren special is her love of science. Seventeen of our 25 Imagine Scholars are girls and many of them curious about a career in science. It was invaluable to have a real-life scientist like Lauren to answer questions and encourage the students in their studies.
She also transferred her passion for identifying birds to the children. Lauren’s ongoing competition to identify the most birds from a recent trip to Kruger National Park has been the buzz of the classroom recently, with the winner getting a special prize from Lauren’s stash of goodies.
Lauren, thank you for your time down here and we all wish you the best in the United States! You’ll always have a home down here in the Nkomazi, birdbrain!
