Name: Promise “Pro” Mathabela

Professional goal: Optometrist

Student Quote: “When I grow up, I want to be an optometrist.  A lot of people mock me and say I have big eyes, so when I tell them I have eye problems they never believe me."

What we’ve noticed about Pro: Pro is a really fluid communicator. She’s extremely skilled in any situation and can always express her ideas, even in poetry and performances.

Interesting Fact: She recently travelled to Norway on an exchange trip through her school.

What we’ve noticed about Zodwa: Zodwa is one of the most articulate young people you’ll ever meet. She is a natural leader and speaks with an uncanny authority. 

Interesting Fact: Zodwa wins everything she does. She takes every challenge seriously and holds the respect of everyone at Imagine Scholar.

Name: Wethu “Siyanda” Biya

Professional goal: Sound Engineer

Student Quote: “At the Imagine Academy I learned that there is more to life than just working hard. Your attitude toward life counts.”  

What we’ve noticed about Siyanda: Siyanda’s a huge presence, and not just because of his height. He holds huge sway among the class and was immensely influential in the recent HIV/AIDS unit.

Interesting Fact: Siyanda is an aspiring rapper with a few records to his credit, which may be purchased upon request from his manager Corey.

Book recommendation: The Hunger Games

Professional goal: Doctor

Student Quote: “I want to be a doctor because I want to help people who are sick and because I love working with people. Nowadays some people become doctors because they look at the benefits and forget why they became doctors in the first place.”

What we’ve noticed about Promise: She’s the ultimate example of a kid you can root for. Despite an immense number of challenges beyond her control, she continues to excel in the Imagine Scholar program and is a delightful presence in class.

Interesting Fact: Promise’s heart was broken when, at Imagine Scholar, she learned professional wrestling was not real.

What we’ve noticed about Prince: Prince has always done a good job displaying his emotions through a variety of different methods.
